Adele, who has the best-selling album in the world thus far this year with her January release 21 selling over 12 million albums worldwide, is now forced to cancel all shows and promotional appearances for the rest of the year due to issues with her vocal cords.
It is reported that doctors found a hemorrhage on her vocal cord that will require surgery, and that her doctors have ordered her to cease all touring and promotion plans until she’s fully recovered. She announced the cancellation of her United States dates for her current tour back at the beginning of October, and the rest of the tour was cancelled on October 28.
In her first post about the initial cancellations, Adele blogged that she had been plagued by vocal problems since her voice was weakened by a case of the flu in December 2010 that she never allowed to fully heal. She said that her voice will sometimes “switch off like a light” due to the hemorrhage, and that she must let it rest until it is completely recovered. She also promises to “smash the ball out of the park once im [sic] touring again.” Rolling Stone reports that Adele is planning to undertake a major arena tour when she returns next year.
After news of the cancellations made its way around Twitter, a rumor emerged that doctors had found the beginning stages of throat cancer in Adele, though this news has not been confirmed.
Adele released her first album, 19, in January 2008, and the album has since racked up an estimated 4 million sales worldwide. She won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2009 at the age of 20.
In addition to being the biggest selling album of the year, 21 also is the best-selling digital album of all time. So far, the album has been on the Billboard 200 albums chart for 35 weeks, spending many of those in the number one spot.

I’ve been a night owl for years, but that’s mostly due to the fact that I have trouble sleeping at night since this is when I do my most creative thinking.
